Elodeas Unterwelt - Part 1: Underneath The Lake

Created by: Dulcamara

Version: 2018-05-10

Available in: Deep Island Shard,
UAM Shard (older version)

This Age is the second episode of Elodea. All episodes of Elodea are actually located in the same Age as the first episode: Elodea. For reasons of performance the Age was split up into four seperate Ages, all situated on or underneath the island of Elodea.

In the previous episode you ended up behind the waterfalls near the lake. In front of you on the rocks is a similar cloth as in the first room of the Elodea episode. This cloth is not a journey cloth but a special cloth that should link you to the last journey cloth that you touched in this Age. This can be used as soon as you have touched at least one of the seven available cloths. To the left is a pedestal with a linking book back to the first episode of Elodea. You just got here, so let's ignore both for now.

Tunnels

Turn right and follow the tunnel in front of you. The next room has a window with bars. Turn left and follow the tunnel until you reach the next room. This room has some digging tools standing against the wall and a tunnel leading downward. Turn a little bit to the right and find a hidden tunnel behind the big rocks. Follow this tunnel until you come to a dead end. To the right is a rock with a lantern standing on top of it. Below the lantern is a scorch mark on the rock. Touch the scorch mark to open a hidden door. Walk through the door. On the other side of the door is another rock with a scorch mark, in case you would want to open the hidden door again. You're now standing on a ledge of a shaft that looks a bit like the 'Great Shaft' except that this is a much shorter version.

You could
You could easily miss this one...

Walk over the ledge until you're on the opposite side as where you entered the shaft. To the left you should see a ladder going down to another ledge. Climb down the ladder and walk over the lower ledge until you reach the first journey cloth. Touch the cloth. From here you can walk back the way you came via the hidden door, or walk off the ledge and take a better look at what's beneath this shaft. There are buildings and other structures down below, but there does not seem to be any way to get there from here. Follow the path spiralling upwards and enter the tunnel at the end.

At the end of the tunnel you'll find youself in the room with the digging tools. From here, follow the tunnels back to the starting point. Take a look at the rocks to the left of the pedestal with the linking book. You should see a small passageway behind the rocks. Enter the passageway and follow the tunnel behind it.

Entering The Underground City

At the end of the tunnel you will see a decorated wall. To the right of the decorated wall is a passageway. Walk into the passageway to find yourself facing another decorated wall. This wall has a passageway to the left of it. Enter the passageway to face another wall with a passageway to the right. After entering this passageway you'll be facing yet another decorated wall with an imaging device standing in front of it. Touch the blue button on the device and the decorated wall will open like a large sliding door. Walk into the next area. To the left, around the corner, stands a pedestal with a vase on it. The pedestal has a button that will open the door again in case you would want to go back to the starting point.

With your back facing the large door, walk forward, passing a large round stairway to your left leading downwards. Ignore this stairway for now, instead keep walking forward. This area looks as if it was used for storage. Whatever it was that they stored here, it's all gone now. At the end of the corridor turn left and follow the adjacent corridor. Near the end of this corridor is an area overlooking a large central area with buildings and other structures built in the rocks.

The First Library

At the end of the corridor is a stairway leading to an upper area. Walk the stairs and you end up in a round room with some mosaic decorations on the walls. This room has one passageway leading to a room with a couch, a chair, a wooden table and a lot of books. This place was apparently used as a library. In the corner, next to a decorated vase, is the second journey cloth, so touch it. Judging from the sounds, this whole area is right underneath the lake with the waterfall.

Head back, out of the library, down the stairs until you're back at the long corridor with the storage areas. Turn left and walk around the round stairs until you see a passageway leading to the central area. Go through the passageway and take the stairs down. At the end, turn right and walk through the passageway.

No Time For Fear Of Heights

Turn left, walk all the way through the corridor until you reach the second passageway on your left. (That is, not counting the passageway through which you entered the corridor.) Turn left here and walk towards the bridge. Stand still for a moment and look to the right. You will see another journey cloth on the wall in the corner two levels down. Walk back towards the wall and from there slowly step off the ledge to the ledge of the level below where you are now. Carefully walk towards the corner. You can climb down the ladder here to reach the third journey cloth. (Actually, this is cloth 4.) Touch the cloth and walk off the ledge onto the roof. From here, you can go about it in two ways.

Shortest version: Walk over the roof until you're about halfway. Turn to the right and walk off the roof here. You should see a path leading towards the central area, where the Elodea version of the 'Great Shaft' is. (I will refer to it as the 'Elodea Shaft' from now on.) Follow the path until you're right underneath the 'Elodea Shaft'.

More realistic and scenic version: Walk over the roof until you're past the stream of water below you. It should be roughly 30 meters away from the corner. You should see a wide straight stairway down below. Walk off the roof here onto the stairway. Walk forward along the right side of the rock formation. Walk past the stairs leading up and keep walking until you see a bridge on your right. Walk over the bridge and go to the left, in the direction of the two blue spheres. You can have another good look on the city from the balcony here. When you're done enjoying the view, turn right (if you're still facing the central plaza) and walk along the railing towards the corner where a bridge to another rock formation starts. To the left of it, in the corner, starts the stairway leading to the "ground level". Walk the stairs all the way down. Turn left at the end and follow the path leading towards the central area until you're right underneath the 'Elodea Shaft'.

Once you're there, look around. You should see a building with what looks like a map standing in front of the building. The other buildings or structures are built inside the rock formations, much like as in Ae'gura. Head over to the city map.

Now that you have a map, you might as well look around a bit more on your own. This guide will take you to all the places that have a journey cloth, but there are a lot more things to see around here than just the places where the cloths are. The map does not show all the places that you can visit. The map also does not show at which level some of the places are. Just for fun, see if you can find the bath-house and the libraries. There are four libraries in the city, the one you already visited, a larger one and two smaller ones. When you're done, get back here by the city map. From here, this guide will continue in the next part.
